I began singing at the age of three - maybe before...
It is one of my earliest memories - singing with my father - who taught me harmonies - who loved Stan Getz and Herb Alpert.
I sing because it is what I am compelled to do and from my first solo on stage in third grade unitl now I still find that the sound finds a way out of me - even when I least expect it to.
I have been performing professionally since 1981, first as a solo singer/songwriter playing acoustic guitar and recording my first album of original music "Everything Changes" in 1991. Prior to that recording I had won a songwriting contest sponsored by the Northern Indiana Arts Association and recorded that song "Singing Sands" at WFMT studios in Chicago for inclusion in the program "The Midnight Special".
In 1992 I joined Waz Lisek and David Cowan to form The Uptown Trio and in 2001 the Trio (including drummer Christian Dohy) released the CD "The Light In Your Eyes" which includes three of my original tunes.
In the summer of 2004 I was fortunate enough to join a group of singers to take a Master Class in Spontaneous Vocal Invention with Bobby Mc Ferrin at Omega in Rhinebeck, New York. My experience there has been a continuing inspiration to explore my voice and sing every moment.
I continue to write my own material as well as explore new and exciting arrangements of songs I love and I look forward to expanding horizons in 2006 - recording yet again - attending Master Classes and finally teaching "Vocal Awareness - Discover Your Hidden Voice" in workshops and to individuals. Contact me for more information on classes.
